Atlas of Rural and Community Health
Despite its bountiful resources, West Texas remains one
of the most medically
underserved areas in the country. Here, as elsewhere on
the
Great Plains,
geographic barriers to care and disparities in health
services related to income
and ethnic factors are combining with demands of an
aging population, a
declining workforce, and an information divide to create
acute problems.
The Atlas of Rural and Community Health provides an
information resource about
West Texas that highlights and compares the land,
people, and economy of West
Texas to the rest of the state. The goals of this
project are to develop a predictive
model for community resources required to meet health
care needs of the rural
elderly in West Texas.
