THE RELIEF EFFORT: GISCORPS, FEMA AND THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS IN WIGGINS MISSISSIPPI
Following Hurricane Katrina, the relief effort focused on
clearing debris and providing large blue tarps to cover wind
damaged roofs. The Corps of Engineers "Blue Roof Program"
was designed as a temporary fix to provide residents with at
least some protection from the elements. The GISCorps
worked closely with local officials, FEMA and the Corps of
Engineers providing maps that were used to coordinate the
relief effort.
