GIS Geodatabase Replication |

The Columbia Centers include: the CRGSC at Stephen F. Austin State University, the University of Texas at El Paso Geospatial Center Department, Texas Tech University (TTU) Center for Geospatial Technology (CGST) in Lubbock, and Lamar University in Beaumont. The Texas Natural Resources Information System (TNRIS) in Austin serves as the hub of the system and as a conduit for geospatial data flow. Data also flow between the various University Centers. The Centers are connected via Abilene, Internet2s high-speed experimental network. Each center operates independently, and the system works together, leveraging the strengths of each, particularly in time of emergency. |

In the event of a large-scale natural disaster in Texas an important function of the Columbia System is to provide a back up for geospatial data in the event that the data distribution channels from any one of the Centers becomes disabled. To support this mission, a system of geodatabase replication is being developed. This system allows each center to have and share current data from TRNIS and other centers in the event of an emergency.
